Answer: A map is drawing of the earth or a part of it on a flat surface. Whereas a sketch is a map which is not according to the scale.

Answer: there are 4 sub directions: northwest, southwest, southeast and northeast

3. Give a short account on the different types of maps.

Answer:

1.   Physical maps: Maps which shows physical features such as maps, rivers etc.

2.   Political maps: Maps which shows different countries, states etc.

3.   Thematic maps: Maps which shows details of certain theme like rainfall, forest, soil etc.

4. What are the significances of the conventional symbols?

Answer: The conventional science and symbols are used to mark necessary object and physical features of the area of the map. they are usually used to denote temple, settlements, bridges, roads, tanks , water bodies etc.
